Gurnee Community

Gurnee in the past 15 years has undertaken a transformation. During this period, Gurnee Mills, the second largest under cover shopping mall in the nation was constructed and also 6 Flags Great America a nationally recognized amusement facility was built. These major attractions along with Gurnee’s proximity to I94 and convenient north and south commuting promoted a significant upgrade in local infra structure and a major residential housing expansion.

Gurnee offers modern housing, top school facilities, a wonderful library and a fabulous recreational park with swimming facilities. A golf driving range. One of the finest golf courses around in Bittersweet Golf Course. Gurnee is horse country, we have riding schools, stables, Lippizan horse stables and extensive riding trails. In minutes you can be out in countryside, Wisconsin can be a rural sojourn without traffic lines through beautiful countryside. We are local to Lake Michigan and all it has to offer and also to the Chain of Lakes and its recreational facilities.

Gurnee Lifestyle

Gurnee Mills, the nations No2 shopping mall in size is right here, we also have. 6 Flags Great America a major summer amusement facility. The town’s own facilities, swimming and recreational parks are modern, managed and widely used by the community. We are a quick getaway to The Chain of Lakes, where serious boating and fishing is available. Our location makes Milwaukee or Chicago easily accessible. There is no end to the possibilities. Most things you would want, including health, hospital facilities are local. Of course Lake Michigan is only ten minutes away.

Gurnee Recreation

Gurnee offers public tennis courts. In addition, we have The Center Club a fitness club with state of the art facilities, and a cafeteria. Cycle and walking paths, off road, provide mile upon mile of network along the Des Plaines River both north and south. We have a terrific town owned recreational center, swimming, fitness, walking facilities are provided. This is a wonderful facility that caters to all the family. It is well fostered by our people. We are located 10 minutes away from Lake Michigan, which offers public beaches, sailing and boating clubs with restaurants, regattas and various social activities. Because of our location, it is convenient to access all the surrounding towns and their facilities.

Gurnee Housing

Old town Gurnee is location on the east side of I94, older traditional homes have been retained and the old world feeling remains.

The Gurnee Mills and Great America initiatives cause major road improvements and an influx of people. This caused major expansion. Hunt Club Road, a north/south road, was formerly a rural road, became a major thoroughfare and residential developments soon rose in that immediate area. Subsequently they expanded west from here and also in the south east areas of Gurnee.

Gurnee offers of breadth of residential choices. We have great town house developments, close to major shopping and highways, mid market housing, modern and with park facilities, open land and great road network access. The north end of town offers open countryside, homes tend to have more land and are larger. In addition, Bittersweet Golf Course is a perfect setting for residences and builders have responded with some magnificent homes in sylvan settings. Gurnee can and does cater for all tastes.

House prices range from the $200,000 price range for more modest homes, to prices in excess of a $1,000,000. Most homes price in the $300-$450,000 price range. Gurnee is a great value. The market is strong in Gurnee and still offers probably the best value for money in the region. A 2,000 square foot home, with an attached 2 car garage and a basement will sell in the low to upper $300,000 price range depending on finishes.

Gurnee Employment

There are many major corporations local to Gurnee. Also, retail businesses abound. Employment opportunities are local and diverse.

Gurnee Culture

All the major churches are represented in Gurnee, with many shared community and regional support activities undertaken.

The 4th of July is celebrated and our summer months includes Friday Farmers Market 7 – 1pm.

Our library offers Internet; computer facilities, a newspaper reading area, cafeteria facilities and movie rentals in addition to the traditional library services.

College of Lake County is to our south west and besides being a major educational facility also hosts the arts.

The community is served by various regional grade schools and Woodland High School, a modern facility. Gurnee offers great school facilities, with major expansion, modernization and new state of the art facilities Carmel High School a recognized parochial school is also local.

Gurnee Nature

Gurnee has the best of everything. Immediate access to open country, major waterways, not just Lake Michigan, we have many local lakes. Cycle paths, off road, run north to Wisconsin and all the way down to Chicago. Horse riding is local and extensive.

Gurnee History

Gurnee was incorporated in 1928, with 200 inhabitants. Up until about twenty years ago it remained a smaller community of local family residents. Located close to I94 its location is prime territory for business commuters.

In the last twenty years the town and its population have seen extensive growth. Major corporations have expanded and moved into the I94 business corridor creating a demand for more housing. Gurnee Mills and 6 Flags Great America have created jobs and also an estimated 26 million visitors. The town and its expansion have been carefully managed. Densities have been controlled.

Population today exceeds 30,000 people. However, town planners have ensured newer residential developments are separated from the major shopping and commercial areas, We have quiet and peaceful residential areas and our road infra structure supports easy local travel and top commute road connections. We have the benefits of a formal planned and controlled growth and our commercial and residential base allows us to maintain our town to the highest standards of upkeep and safety.

Gurnee is a great residential town, with shopping and recreational facilities second to none. Modern school facilities and family activities abound. The College of Lake County is local to us.
